A Student Guide to the MeisterSuite

This post was updated on August 7, 2020.

Like many students around the world, you’re now learning from home. Lucky for you, your teacher has set up your classroom online so you can do as much as possible on your own. In this guide, we explain how to use MindMeister and MeisterTask to keep up with your studies.

How to Use MeisterTask

MeisterTask is an online task management tool. You’ll be using it to manage your coursework and communicate with your teacher and fellow students.

Your teacher will set up and invite you to a project board that acts as your digital classroom. You’ll receive an invitation to the project via email. Then, you’ll need to sign up for MeisterTask.

Once you’ve signed up, log in and you’ll be taken to your dashboard.

The Dashboard

In the left navigation panel, you’ll see:

  • Dashboard — where you are now
  • Agenda — your own personal board
  • Projects — your classes

If each of your teachers has set up a project for their class, you’ll see a project for each subject (math, history, chemistry, etc).

On the far right side of your dashboard, you’ll see your notifications. Whenever comments or changes are made to a task that you’re involved in, you’ll see a notification pop up here.

Projects

Click on the name of a project in the left panel to open your class board. The section names and workflow are up to your teacher. Your class board might look different than the example here, but the idea is the same.

Assignments for your class are displayed on the board in task tiles. As your course continues, your teacher will move the tasks into the right sections to represent the progress of your class.

Click on a task to open it.

Tasks

Now you’ll see all the information you need to know about your assignment:

  • At the top: A description from your teacher about what to do
  • Next: A checklist of all student names so that you can check off your own name once you’ve completed the assignment.
  • At the bottom: Any material you might need to do the assignment, as attachments.
  • In the right panel: The due date, schedule, and type of assignment.

To stay on top of all the assignments in your class, and to get notifications about them, make yourself a watcher on all of them. This is important because your classmates might ask your teacher questions about the assignment using comments. The answers to those questions might be relevant to you, too. To make yourself a watcher, click Watching in the right panel of a task, then find your name in the drop-down menu.

To ask a question yourself, leave a comment in the task and mention your teacher using @.

Agenda

Now that you know where to find your classes and assignments, it’s time to build your own board. In MeisterTask, your personal board is called Agenda, and you can pin assignments from any class to it. To get to it, go to your dashboard and click Agenda in the left panel. You can create sections and name them whatever you like to organize your assignments best.

In this example, there are just a few sections, but you can make as many as you like. Assignments could be organized by:

  • type of task — studying, reading, exercises, etc.
  • duration — quick, medium, long
  • schedule — morning, afternoon, evening

You can create your agenda in many different ways! And you can also play around with the section colors to make it look just right.

On the left, you have a task feed. It will show you recent tasks that you have interacted with so that you can drag and drop them to the sections.

You can also pin tasks to your agenda from the task dialog. Click the pin and then choose which section the assignment should be pinned to.
